Connect Recharge to VS Code
Add Recharge to VS Code and you can check your allowance or book leave from the Chat view. It’s one command, a sign-in and you’re set.
https://www.getrecharged.co.uk/mcpSet it up
- 1
Copy your Recharge MCP server URL from the box above.
- 2
Open the Command Palette and run “MCP: Add Server”, then choose an HTTP server and paste the URL. Or add it to .vscode/mcp.json yourself (use “MCP: Open User Configuration” to add it for all workspaces).
.vscode/mcp.json { "servers": { "recharge": { "type": "http", "url": "https://www.getrecharged.co.uk/mcp" } } } - 3
If VS Code doesn’t prompt you to sign in, click Auth above the recharge entry in mcp.json. Sign in with your Recharge account in the window that opens and approve access.
- 4
Run “MCP: List Servers” to start it if needed, then open the Chat view and use Configure Tools to check Recharge’s tools are on.
- 5
Ask something like “How many holiday days do I have left?”
Then ask
You don’t need special syntax. VS Code works out which Recharge tool to use.
- “How many holiday days do I have left this year?”
- “Do I have any TOIL banked?”
- “Suggest some good dates for a long weekend.”
- “Book next Tuesday off for a hospital appointment.”
- “Is there a clash if I’m off the week of the 12th?”
- “What’s waiting on me to approve? (managers)”
Good to know
- It’s your account, nothing more. You sign in with your normal Recharge login and approve a consent screen. VS Code gets your permissions, not its own access, and there’s no shared API key.
- Writes are logged. Anything that books, changes or cancels leave goes into the same audit log as the dashboard.
- Managers can’t approve their own leave, in chat or anywhere else.
- Read the full MCP security details.
MCP in VS Code works through Chat, so it needs the chat feature available on your account. Organisations can restrict MCP servers, so if you can’t add one, check with your admin. These steps follow the provider’s own documentation, and their interface can change. If a button or menu has moved, their docs below have the current version.
